Love, Your Coach

1 note

Dear Player,

Telling your teammates was awful. They thought it was a mean joke. They said you quit on them. They are sad.

I don’t blame them.

The irony that you joined another team that has players on it I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole. Plus I checked the scores of the team you joined this weekend. Makes me smile. I know you have made the wrong choice. Have you figured it out yet?

Ten runned? We’ve never been ten runned. Enjoy your new team.

Love,
Your Coach

Dear Player,

I have to admit something. I’m terrified to tell your teammates that you quit on them. The reason your dad gave me really does not make sense. I inferred that you think you are to good to be on our team. I inferred that you feel you are too good for us.

Here is the deal. You chose us last summer. We spent the winter working out. You were chosen captain of the team. How am I supposed to tell them? This and since school ball has started you have told me you “can’t run because of your hip, arm hurts so you can pitch, allergic to colds, when you get frustrated your throat closes up and you can’t breathe, oh and got dizzy on the mound ” to name a few of the things you told me.

I don’t want anyone playing for me that doesn’t want to play for me. But your teammates!?! They are the ones who will be sad. It affects them more than it affects me.

Think about that. We will survive. We will thrive. We will win and unfortunately you won’t be a part of that.

Good luck.
Love,
Your Coach

Journey

Dear Player,

There is much to be said about the journey over the destination. We will always have bumps in the road. We won’t always win. But if you trust your teammates, me, and this game the journey will be worth it.

Giving up in the beginning of a season is like quitting a movie during the previews. You didn’t even get to see any of what you paid for.

Love,
Your Coach
